Academic Progress
When a student fails to make adequate progress towards maintaining a 2.00 cumulative grade point average (GPA), students are placed in academic warning and academic suspension. More information about this policy is available through the Faculty Senate. A student with a 2.00 cumulative GPA or higher is in good standing.

Academic Warning
An academic warning is not a punishment nor the end of an academic career.
Academic warning is the official notice for a student who has failed to maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA. Academic Warning is a time to seek help in taking an active approach to improve academics. A student in academic warning will have a hold placed on registration and will be required to meet with Elizabeth Brown, the academic recovery specialist. All meetings are held virtually through Zoom.
A student in academic warning must earn a 2.0 semester GPA to continue; a 2.0 cumulative GPA is required to return to good standing.
What to Do Next
Complete the online self-reflection worksheet
Before meeting with the academic recovery specialist, students must fill out this form. This self-assessment will serve as a discussion guide.
Schedule a meeting with the academic recovery specialist
After submitting the self-reflection checklist, you will schedule a meeting with Elizabeth Brown, the academic recovery specialist. During this meeting, we will discuss challenges that impeded academic progress, discuss resources including how to access those resources, and build a plan to actively improve their academics.

Academic Suspension and Dismissal
Suspension
You will be academically suspended from the University if you earn less than a 2.00 semester grade-point average while on Academic Warning. Academic Suspension prevents enrollment at PSU for a minimum of two semesters.
Dismissal
A student who returns from academic suspension and does not achieve at least a 2.00 semester GPA is subject to academic dismissal and is no longer permitted to take courses at the University.
If you are facing an academic suspension or dismissal, we invite you to view the FAQ on Academic Suspension and Dismissal page to find your next steps.
